The Biocolombini agricultural company was established in Crespina, in the province of Pisa, by Faustino, the grandfather of the current owner, Alessandro Colombini. Two World Wars, agricultural exodus, industrialisation, the moving from traditional agriculture to chemical production: these are the main events that over the years have made up the history of this company in the Valdera.

Today, though, the company stands out for its use of traditional techniques, without the use of chemicals, thanks to which it is able to cultivate certified organic products. In 2001 it was awarded the “Etica Impresa” prize with its project “Giardino dei Semplici” which aims to provide employment for the socially disadvantaged (people with physical and/or psychiatric disabilities, people living with addictions). 2008 marked an important moment for the company and for social agriculture with a myriad of significant projects: participation in the project “Il Giardino diventa Impresa”, the foundation of the “Valdera Insieme Mauro Gallevi Onlus” Association which would later become a social cooperative and, finally, the foundation of the “Orti E.T.I.C.I.” project. – Orticoltura Economia Tecnica ed Inclusione soCiale Innovativa (Technical Horticulture Economy and Innovative Social Inclusion) – which still today unites a variety of both public and private organisations, including the University of Pisa.
