Pays de FayenceVAR
With a backdrop of blue sky, the perched villages stand out against the high ground and look out to sea from afar. At their feet stand stone terraces surrounded by olive groves and hills rolling with mimosa. The Alps of High Provence are home to the eight “perched villages” of the Fayence Hills, not far from Saint-Raphaël. These ancient fortresses with their steep slopes conserve a rich historical legacy boasting castles, chapels, churches, historical monuments, medieval ruins, majestic gates and ancient bourgeois residences. The little villages perched in the high ground watch over the sea from above. The Tanneron Massif unfurls the winter cloak of mimosa over its hills.
This is the scenery of the Villages of Fayence, extending over 401.9km2, also known as the “blue, green and gold Country”. The Villages of Fayence are full of treasures to discover, such as Mons, Callian or Seillans. In Montauroux, the extraordinary Bambouseraie du Mandarin (bamboo plantation) will leave you speechless. During the summer, the lake of Saint-Cassien becomes a true oasis of peace and wellbeing. The best way to enjoy the visit to the full is to take a trip on a boat, canoe or simply by pedalo.
